Do the Math. How Long Do Candles Last?
Share
We know you may not like math. But, we promise you’ll like learning the difference between flamed candles and The Amazing Flameless Candle, relative to how long each lasts! Let’s start by figuring out the burn time of a flamed candle. Pick one of your flamed candles and weigh it. Suppose, for the sake of discussion, it is 16 oz. Light that candle for three hours. Weigh it again. We’ll pretend it now weights 15 oz. Take the difference (1 oz.) in weight and divide it by 3 (0.33). Now take your original weight (16 ozs.) and divide by .33. That leaves an answer of 48; the number of hours that candle will last before it is completely melted. Confused? If so, you can use our candle burn time cheat sheet below to see how long flamed candles usually last.
In general, flamed tealights go 4-6 hours, flamed votives 15-20 hours and flamed pillars above 100 hours. Of course, this assumes you burn the candle entirely (which is unlikely), until it’s an unsightly melted mess of wax. Now let’s figure out the burn time of a flameless candle. Oh, wait, that’s easy math and another reason you’ll like The Amazing Flameless Candle™! The LED in a flameless candle will last about 100,000 hours. If you use it four hours a day, it will keep working for an astonishing 68 years! But, alas, the four AA batteries can’t keep that pace. They last about 450 hours.
So, short story shorter, depending on the type of candle you’re comparing, The Amazing Flameless Candle™ will last 10x-100x times longer than a flamed candle on one set of AA batteries. And if you buy our rechargeable tealight candles, there’s no telling how long our flameless will outlast a flamed candle.
